History

The European Process Safety Centre (EPSC) is an industry-funded network which exists to provide an independent forum for the leadership and support of process safety within Europe.

EPSC was founded in 1992 by the European Federation of Chemical Engineering (EFCE), with the encouragement of CEFIC (Conseil Européen des Fédérations de l'Industrie Chimique).

When EPSC was founded, it was agreed that the Centre should be established by one of the EFCE member societies, the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) in the UK. IChemE provides facilities and services for the Centre and ensures that the finances will be used solely for the Centre. IChemE is a not-for-profit organisation and has charitable status under UK law.

The Centre's membership of including manufacturers, contractors, consultants and academic institutions represents a significant part of the process safety community in Europe.
