Protection in Dust Extractors
25/09/2009The new guideline VDI 2263 Part 6.1 offers guidance to manufacturers and users of dust extractors, giving examples of how to carry out risk assessments and explosion protection measures in filter separators. The guideline applies to installations in which, during specified normal use, combustible dust/air mixtures or hybrid mixtures occur, or may be formed. It thus complements the guideline VDI 2263 Part 6, which describes the general procedures of explosion protection, and knowledge of which is a prerequisite.
Annex A of the guideline presents fire protection measures, using the examples of a dust extraction and removal installation in a welding shop and of a dry electrostatic separator in the flue-gas cleaning of a power plant. Annex B shows examples of equipotential bonding / earthing and of conductive/static dissipative filter media. The guideline VDI 2263 Part 6.1 is issued by the VDI Society for Energy and Environment. It is released as bilingual German/English version superseding the draft of April 2008.
