HSE Advises Against Planning Permission For Flats Near Gas Storage Site
07/07/2010A large commercial and residential development planned for construction near a natural gas storage facility is to be refused planning permission following local authority consultation with the UK HSE.
Land use planning decisions such as this have important roles both in protecting the public from potential harm and in protecting operators of hazardous facilities from increases in the consequences of risk.
A densely inhabited high rise development was considered particularly unsuitable in this case due to the difficulty of evacuating such a structure in a major hazard emergency.
