HSL Report on Validating Liquified Natural Gas Dispersion Models

22/04/2010
A Health and Safety Laboratory (HSL) report has been commissioned by the UK HSE to study the validity of all commonly used models of dispersion for releases of hazardous fluids and vapours, primarily LNG.

This report gives detailed information on the physics involved in a spill under various conditions and the relevance to simulation of fluid or vapour behaviour. The intention is to allow a judgement to be made on whether a model can be in particular circumstances and whether results from a model are transferrable to other situations. Studied in particular are the GASP and SOURCE5 models, with an examination of the underlying assumptions of the model and application to real world events.
