Mutual Joint Visit Fulda To Cover Safety Management
05/07/2010The Mutual Joint Visit in Fulda on 27th to 29th October is to have a theme of Safety Management Systems (SMS) presentations.
The Mutual Joint Visit programme is a series of combined inspections and meetings that allow participating states to demonstrate methods used in the implementation of Seveso, and to share relevant information for competent authorities. EPSC will participate as part of TWG2
The competent authorities are required within inspections to carry out a systematic examination of the systems being employed at the establishment, whether of a technical, organisational or managerial nature. Over the past few years, methods, tools and approaches have been developed by inspectors and their organisations to cope with the problems of assessing a subject as difficult to formulate as management. There still remains a need to make clear what level of effort in safety management the authorities should be looking for.
The coming MJV in Fulda will cover these topics about the expectations of authorities in dealing with safety management systems, with work and presentations expected on potential deficiences of SMS, evaluating its effectiveness, and the role of leadership in safety culture.
